The police recently embarked on investigations regarding the bomb threats received by Target stores in three states after the retailer corporation pulled out and moved or move certain LGBT collections celebrating “Pride Month” displays from their stores. Target had forced evacuations of the terrified employees following the threats.
According to Cleveland 19 News, it received a bomb threat on the afternoon of May 26 against five Target stores in Ohio, and the threat that was received at 12:26 p.m. via email centered around Target’s LGBT merchandise. “Target is full of cowards who turned their back on the LGBT community and decided to cater to the homophobic right-wing redneck bigots who protested and vandalized their store,” part of the emailed threat read.
The Buckeye State wasn’t alone as there were also multiple Utah Targets that received bomb threats. Salt Lake City Police Communications Director Brent Weisberg declined to provide specifics about the threats, citing an ongoing investigation, but assured they will provide neighborhood patrols around the Target locations in Salt Lake City out of an abundance of caution.
The department store management decided to move the items that offended the majority of their customers. In some cases, they completely pulled the items. This was alleged because conservatives and even some independents found it disagreeable to see “tuck-friendly” or “chest-binding” images that are displayed prominently in the retail giant branches where children can easily see them and be influenced. All News PipeLine denounced the bomb threats. “Bomb threats are illegal or a violation of the criminal laws of the U.S., and they were meant to intimidate or coerce Target into changing their stance,” the independent news outlet’s Susan Duclos wrote.
Duclos also slammed members of the mainstream media, who have been reporting the incidents but never called these threats domestic terrorism. And despite publishing the email, media outlets did not directly call out the LGBT community, or even the more militant portion of the transgender community, for terrorism.
Unlike Target, Bud Light continues to support the LGBTQ community despite losing billions following a failed ad campaign featuring transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. The beer company recently announced that it will donate $200,000 to the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC).
Bud Light said it extending its partnership with the LGBT nonprofit “to continue supporting economic opportunities and advancements for LGBTQ+ Americans and business owners across the country,” according to a press release. It also added that its parent company Anheuser-Busch takes pride in a strong track record of industry leadership in supporting the LGBTQ+ community.
The ongoing boycott over the Mulvaney partnership has spurred plunging sales of Bud Light and other Anheuser-Busch brands, as well as a whopping $27 billion drop in Anheuser-Busch’s market value.
Critics observed that Bud Light has occasionally doubled down on its LGBT-related efforts only to apparently abandon them again. In fact, last month, the company said it is sponsoring the “Cincinnati Pride Parade” to be held on June 24. Also, as of last week, the list of sponsors on the event’s website included Anheuser-Busch, with an image of a rainbow-colored bottle of Bud Light under the heading “Together in Pride.”
However, Both Anheuser-Busch and Bud Light logos no longer appear on the parade’s “Sponsors and Partners” landing page as of June 2. It was still unclear why the logos have been removed.
